What a time to be alive!
The continuing pandemic has made me aware of quite a few things. Most of which I will not get into here. But the most abstract of all these awarenesses was the amount and magnitude of conspiracy theories that’s flying around.
I’m no expert. Not at all. But it’s safe to say, I like to think of myself as a non-conspiracy-theorist.
It’s just something fascinating to me. But not just as a theory. The fact that it’s actually more than just a ‘roll eyes’ or ‘butt of the joke’ conversation starter.
What is a conspiracy theory?
Conspiracy theory, an attempt to explain harmful or tragic events as the result of the actions of a small powerful group. Such explanations reject the accepted narrative surrounding those events; indeed, the official version may be seen as further proof of the conspiracy.Brittanica
Where do I stand on the matter?
Nowhere! I enjoy listening to the arguments of conspiracies. Some arguments are incredibly plausible. And others are just absolutely oozing with paranoia and fear. These usually make me sad. Imagine letting your life be ruled by fears? To the point where you stop living. That’s just tragic.
Did you know that it’s someone’s job to familiarise themselves with each and every conspiracy theory out there?
I also didn’t. It turns out that behind every conspiracy theory, someone needs to follow up to ensure that there’s no truth to it.
What a fascinating job!
Can you imagine stalking social media platforms for obscure links posted from a website about an alien sighting. Then authorising a visit to said location. And spending time and money to check it out!
Did you know that even if they discover that there is truth in one theory, the normal Jack & Jill in the street will never hear about it?
Here COVID vs 5G is a good example.
One can’t help but understand why the powers in charge won’t bring the truth to light. We just might have a toilet paper shortage again as people go on panic buying sprees.
Or brand new 5G towers might be demolished with, just short of pitch forks!!
Do you suppose the toilet paper hoarders have run out of white gold by now?
Did you know that psychologists have done extensive research in this field?
There seems to be a few theories flying around. Yes, it sounds like conspiracy theories fly around in the study of conspiracy theories… O boy.
Certain personality types seem to be prone to conspiracy theories.
Conspiracy theories are not deemed beliefs of below average individuals. It seems to be the complete opposite.
There also seems to be a correlation between conspiracy theories and certain religious groups as well as some health and wellness enthusiasts.
So I’ve realised a small truth about this fascinating phenomena
Throwing all conspiracy theories out with the bathwater is not necessarily the best idea. There’s ultimately value in all things, depending on your perspective.
I mean, Doomsday Preppers, teach unbelievably useful tips and tricks! Especially when camping. Or reminding us of grandma’s useful skill of preserving and bottling excess harvest.
And with that little useful tidbit, it’s time to go to bed.
Do you conspiracy or non-conspiracy?
Until next time!
